A Grateful Heart This Christmas

Christmas is a great time of the year, I love it. It’s not about extravagance or perfection for me—it’s about connection, gratitude, and the small, meaningful traditions that bring so much joy to my little family. As we dive into the festive season, I wanted to share what makes this time special for me and extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you who have supported me at óm holistic during 2024.

Family First: Catching Up and Making Memories
Christmas for us is a time to slow down and catch up with loved ones we don’t get to see often. A highlight is visiting my mum’s great aunt—she’s a treasure trove of stories and wisdom, and I adore spending time with her.
We make a yearly trip to Birmingham to soak up the atmosphere at the Christmas markets. The mulled wine, bratwurst, and twinkling lights always get us into the festive spirit. Ice skating is another must-do, even if I’m not the most graceful on the rink! And the theatre—oh, the theatre! Christmas isn’t complete without a pantomime or musical. We’re big theatre lovers throughout the year, but there’s something extra magical about watching a performance during the festive season.
Food, Glorious Food
Being married to an Italian has elevated my Christmas feast game! We’ve ditched the Turkey and made goose the star of our Christmas table, surrounded by delicious sides and, of course, the best Italian desserts. Food is such a central part of our celebrations, not just for nourishment but for the love and connection it represents when we’re all gathered around the table. Friends know they will be well fed at Stainburn Crescent.
A Touch of Icelandic Tradition
In our house, we’ve adopted the Icelandic tradition of Jólabókaflóð—the “Christmas Book Flood.” Instead of spending a fortune on gifts, we exchange books and chocolates, keeping it simple, thoughtful, and heartwarming. It’s become one of my favourite traditions, as we all curl up with our new reads and treats.

Festive Self-Care: My Favourite Little Rituals
Christmas can be full-on, so I always carve out some quiet moments for myself. A face mask and a cup of tea are my go-to for instant relaxation. I am quite a nostalgic person, I enjoy reading back over old entries in my jurnal and reflecting back on photos of the year gone by. Its another way I like to reminisce and feel grateful.
New Year’s Eve is also special to us. We celebrate early with a “fake midnight” at 9 pm for our daughter, complete with sparklers and cheers. It’s these small traditions that make the season feel truly magical.
Gratitude and Boundaries
Christmas can come with its pressures—expectations around gifting, family dynamics, and the societal push for overconsumption. My advice?
Simplify gifting: Thoughtful doesn’t have to mean expensive. Books, baked goods, or a heartfelt card can be just as meaningful as any big-ticket item.
Set boundaries: It’s okay to say no or step back when things feel overwhelming. Honour your energy.
Embrace imperfection: Not everything has to be Instagram-worthy. A cosy Christmas jumper and a laugh with loved ones matter far more than perfectly folded gift wrap.
And speaking of Christmas jumpers—I work alone, so there’s no xmas jumper day in the office, or even a Christmas party for me. But I’ve got a non-traditional celebration on 21st December at a workshop I’m helping with, and I can’t wait to treat it as my festive gathering! You can find out more about the event HERE.
Elf on the Shelf & Keeping Things Real
Confession: our Elf doesn’t make an appearance until mid-December. Why? Because, like so many parents, We run out of ideas! My husband and I split the elf duties, each taking a day, and I’ve already been scouring Pinterest for some fresh inspiration. It’s fun, but keeping it manageable is key to enjoying it.
óm holistic This Christmas
For those who might feel ready to escape the festive chaos or fancy a treat during the quieter days, óm holistic will be open between Christmas and New Year and throughout early January. Whether you need to unwind after all the celebrations or feel rejuvenated for the year ahead, I’d love to see you.
A Heart Full of Thanks
To every client who has stepped through the doors of óm holistic this year, thank you. Trusting me with your time, your energy, and your wellbeing is an honour I never take for granted. Your commitment to self-care is inspiring, and I always strive to give 100% to every single treatment.
Ending the Year with Gratitude
As I reflect on the year, my heart feels full. The food, the family, the quiet moments, and the love shared are what truly make Christmas magical for me. This season, I wish you a home filled with warmth, a heart full of gratitude, and a happy, healthy family to cherish.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! ✨
